Need help paying for college?

There are numerous options to assist students and families with college expenses. Get started by filing the  (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the application for all federal financial aid programs, some state programs and all 香蜜影视scholarship and grant programs. Students must complete a FAFSA each year.

Students should also complete the online  to be considered for over 400 scholarships. The best time to apply is between January 1 and April 1 each year. Make sure to apply by the priority date of April 1 for full consideration.

Students should also explore and apply for other financial aid and scholarship opportunities, if they meet the criteria.

Other Aid Opportunities

 

Financial aid is any funding used by students and families to assist with college related expenses. The types include, but aren't limited to, the following:

Grants

  • Money available to students based on information provided on the FAFSA. Sources include federal, state and LCCC. This money doesn't have to be paid back. 

Scholarships

  • Money available to students based on skills or interests. Available from state, LCCC and outside agencies.  All 香蜜影视scholarships require students to file a current year鈥檚 FAFSA. This money doesn't have to be paid back.

Employee Benefits

  • Money available to employees and/or their eligible spouse and dependents. Students and families should contact their employer for information. This money doesn't have to be paid back and may be in the form of reimbursement after successful completion of courses.

Tuition Waivers

  • Money available to students based on affiliation with employers, groups or organizations. Students and families should contact their employer for information. This money doesn't have to be paid back and may be in the form of reimbursement after successful completion of courses. 

Work Study

  • Earnings from work in on-campus positions. Wages are subsidized by the federal government. A FAFSA is required.

Student and Parent Loans

  • Low, fixed interest rate student and parent loans guaranteed by the federal government. Loans require repayment however, terms include forgiveness for students in certain careers. Paid interest is tax deductible. A FAFSA is required.

Private Loans

  • Available from private lenders, banks and credit unions to assist with educational expenses not covered by other financial aid. Interest rates and terms vary by lender. Often require co-signer for student. Not eligible for government forgiveness provisions or other terms. Students and parents strongly advised to carefully read and review terms before accepting.

What is available?

Federal Aid 

Pell Grants are available to students who demonstrate exceptional financial need as determined by the FAFSA. Awards range from $740  - $7,395 for the 2024/2025 academic year for full-time enrollment. The amount is prorated based on actual enrollment. Pell Grants are also available to students enrolling in summer semester. Students are limited to 12 full-time semesters (or the equivalent) of lifetime Pell Grant eligibility (roughly six years). A student may not receive Pell Grant payments concurrently from more than one school. .

FSEOG is a federal financial aid grant program with limited funding availability. Priority is given to students with the greatest financial need as determined by the FAFSA. The maximum full-time award amount at 香蜜影视is $600 per academic year and is prorated based on actual enrollment. .

Federal Work Study is a need-based federal financial aid program with limited funding availability. The student is employed in an on-campus position and paid wages. These wages are subsidized by the federal government and aren't subject to Social Security (FICA) or Medicare taxes. Federal Direct Loans are available to students and parents of dependent students.  Students must be enrolled at least half-time, 6 credits a semester, to qualify. These fixed interest-rate loans are guaranteed by the Federal government and have generous forgiveness, deferment and forbearance provisions as well as flexible repayment options. The FAFSA is the application for Federal Direct Loans. Loans are received at the beginning of each semester after the drop/add period.  

Parents interested in Parent Direct PLUS Loans may . Parent loans are subject to a credit decision. 

 such as the difference between subsidized and unsubsidized loans, annual and aggregate loan limits, current interest rates and fees, and repayment information.

First-time Federal Direct Loan borrowers must complete a Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling at  before receiving the loan.

We highly recommend  that you borrow only what you need to meet your educational expenses.

State Aid

Created and funded by the state of Wyoming, Hathaway Scholarships are available to Wyoming residents that attended and graduated from Wyoming high schools. They are merit-based and may be used at the University of Wyoming or any community college within the state. The award amount ranges from $1,680 to $3,360 per academic year for full-time enrollment. The award is prorated based on actual enrollment.

A separate  is required to begin the awarding process. For more information about the Hathaway Scholarship, students can  or contact their high-school counselor. While not required, students are strongly encouraged to file a FAFSA as the student may be eligible for federal, state and LCCC scholarships and grants.

Created and funded by the state of Wyoming, Hathaway Need are available to students who receive the Hathaway Scholarship. The amount varies per student based on the information included on the FAFSA, other gift aid received and the student鈥檚 Hathaway award level. Not all students who are awarded the Hathaway Scholarship also receive the Hathaway Need.

Students can鈥檛 be awarded the Hathaway Need without a FAFSA. Students must file a FAFSA and submit all required documents by Oct. 1 (Fall) and Feb. 1 (Spring) to be evaluated for the Hathaway Need. Hathaway Need isn鈥檛 restricted to low-income students and families.

Created and funded by the state of Wyoming, Hathaway Need Scholarships are for recent high school graduates. They are need-based and may be used at the University of Wyoming or any community college within the state. 
 
 

The Kickstart Wyoming鈥檚 Tomorrow Scholarship is a state scholarship program created by the Legislature in 2023 for Wyoming residents 24 years of age or older who demonstrate financial need.

The Kickstart Wyoming鈥檚 Tomorrow Scholarship is a precursor to the Legislatively-created Wyoming鈥檚 Tomorrow Scholarship endowment which is intended to provide post-secondary educational access through financial assistance to qualified students.

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services is committed to helping people with disabilities establish and reach vocational goals that help them become productive, working citizens. Interested students should visit the Vocational Rehabilitation Office or  for more information.

The WyIN Program offers low-interest loans to students enrolled in the nursing program. The loan is completely forgiven if the student works as a nurse or nurse educator in Wyoming. The award amount is up to $1,800 per semester and students must apply by June 1 for Fall consideration, Sept. 1 for Spring consideration. For more information about the WyIN Program, students can  or contact their nursing program advisor for information.

Wyoming Works is a state need-based grant program and resources that are targeted at adult Wyoming students to advance their skills in areas that lead to secure employment.

香蜜影视scholarships and grants and all other gift aid combined may not exceed the student鈥檚 estimated cost of attendance. Gift aid includes, but is not limited to: scholarships, grants, waivers, benefits and discounts.

Various funding sources available to qualifying students for non-credit training in high demand occupations such as Certified Clinical Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technician, Dental Assisting, Plumbing and HVAC Apprenticeships and more. The student must file a FAFSA. Funding is available to cover tuition and fees for program related courses. Students can visit the A.C.T. Now webpage for more information about the programs.

Employees may be eligible for the City of Laramie Tuition Waiver to cover tuition and mandatory fees. Contact City of Laramie Human Resources to complete an application. While not required, students are strongly encouraged to file a FAFSA as they may be eligible for additional federal, state and 香蜜影视awards.

Available to students overcoming unusual personal barriers to completing their degree or certificate and experiencing extreme financial hardships. A FAFSA is required. Visit the Student Hub to request and submit a Financial Hardship Application.

Eligible applicants must be a GEAR UP participant. Please contact GEAR UP Program Manager Justine Essex (jessexFREELARAMIE) for more information.

Amount and terms vary by team and funding availability. Interested students should meet with coaches.

Available to full-time, incoming freshmen who earned between a 3.00 and 3.499 high school cumulative GPA at the end of the junior year. The award is $800 per academic year. Students must file a FAFSA before the funds can be released.

The award is renewable for the second year if the student maintains a 2.25 cumulative GPA and earns a minimum of 24 credit hours at 香蜜影视during their first year of attendance.

Graduating high school seniors should complete the online Presidential & Dean's Scholarship Application.

Amount and terms vary by department and funding availability. Interested students should meet with department faculty.

Available to benefitted employees and their spouse/dependents. The benefit allows student to enroll for $10 per credit hour, plus course fees. Contact 香蜜影视Human Resources for information. While not required, students are strongly encouraged to file a FAFSA as they may be eligible for additional federal, state and 香蜜影视awards.

The 香蜜影视Need Grant is awarded to Pell Grant eligible students with high financial need. Eligibility is based on FAFSA information and other gift aid received (scholarships/grants/entitlements). The maximum annual full-time award is $600 and is prorated based on actual enrollment level. Students must be enrolled at least half-time, maintain a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA, and complete at least 67 percent of attempted credits. Priority is given to students who file the FAFSA by May 1.

Available to students who are economically disadvantaged or first generation college students. Students must file a current year鈥檚 FAFSA. Funds may be available to help with tuition, fees, and book expenses.

Available to full-time, incoming freshmen who earned a minimum 3.5 high school cumulative GPA at the end of the junior year. The award is $1,600 academic year. Students must file a FAFSA before the funds can be released.

The award is renewable for the second year if the student maintains a 2.5 cumulative GPA and earns a minimum of 24 credit hours at 香蜜影视during their first year of attendance.

Graduating high school seniors should complete the online Presidential & Dean's Scholarship Application.

 

Available to students who are 60 years or older at the beginning of the semester. The discount allows the student to pay 20% of the resident tuition rate per credit hour plus all applicable course fees. To qualify, the student must bring his/her driver's license to the Student Hub.

The Soaring Eagle Award is available to Wyoming residents, Pell Grant eligible, non-traditional and first-generation students (based on FAFSA responses). The award is limited to the estimated cost of tuition, fees and books less all other gift aid received (scholarships/grants/entitlements). The maximum annual full-time award is $1,000 and is prorated based on actual enrollment level. Students must be enrolled at least half-time, maintain a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA, and complete at least 67 percent of attempted credits. Priority is given to students who file the FAFSA by May 1.

 

The Student Progress Award is available to students who didn鈥檛 receive an 香蜜影视scholarship the first year of attendance and completed at least 24 credits with a minimum 2.00 GPA. The maximum annual full-time award is $1,000 and is prorated based on actual enrollment level. The award is renewable for up to two years. Students must be enrolled at least half-time, maintain a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA, and complete at least 67 percent of attempted credits. Priority is given to students who file the FAFSA by May 1.

Available to University of Wyoming employees. The waiver covers up to three (3) credits for full-time employees and up to 1.5 credits for part-time employees for tuition and mandatory fees.

Applications are available at University of Wyoming Human Resources or people can download and complete the application online. While not required, students are strongly encouraged to file a FAFSA as they may be eligible for additional federal, state and 香蜜影视awards.

Students may . 

Veterans and Active Duty Military

GI Bill庐 is available to eligible veterans, spouses and dependents based on veteran鈥檚 chapter of eligibility. Learn more about available assistance.

Students must be enrolled in a degree-granting program. Students receiving GI Bill庐 who file a FAFSA are eligible for all federal awards. Amount of GI Bill庐 varies based on the Chapter of Eligibility. For more information about GI Bill庐, students can  or contact Lacey Shandera (VA Certifying Official) by email.

Available to active duty airmen based at Warren Air Force Base.  香蜜影视will waive mandatory fees (not course fees) for students receiving Air Force Active Duty Tuition Assistance. Students may not receive Tuition Assistance and GI Bill庐 simultaneously. Students may simultaneously receive federal financial aid, if eligible. Available to combat veterans in foreign wars with a qualifying medal. Students must maintain a 2.00 cumulative GPA. The benefit pays tuition and fees for up to eight (8) semesters. Students may not receive Benefit and GI Bill庐 Tuition coverage simultaneously. and the application process.

Available to Vietnam veterans, spouse or dependents who are not eligible for GI Bill庐 benefits. Students must maintain a 2.00 cumulative GPA. The benefit pays tuition and fees for up to ten (10) semesters. and the application process.

Tax Benefits

Students and parents may be eligible for federal tax credits to assist with college expenses. . 

Students must provide their Social Security number (SSN) to 香蜜影视to be eligible for tax credits. Students may submit the Request for Taxpayer Information Number (PDF) to confirm their SSN. The form may be submitted in person to the Student Hub in Cheyenne or Laramie, or by mail. Students seeking a 1098-T must provide the Social Security number no later than Dec. 1 of the tax year.
